Operations Manager

The New Love Center is engaging in a ministry where the love of Christ provides for all. Care and Hospitality are important facets of the ministry and mission of The New Love Center. This is a full-time position usually M-F with some possible weekends.

The position is for a food bank. The food bank has distribution of food and serving food on weekdays. The position will include administration, facilities, and programs.

The ideal candidate must: be goal oriented, have a willingness to work as a team player, have organizational skills, have computer literacy skills, capable of operating a truck, pallet jack and other food program equipment as needed, perform physical demands of work in a warehouse and food pantry, show hospitality and care toward clients and a passion for supporting the Ministry.

Job Description

I. Job Classification: This position is considered Full Time

II. Salary Range: $35,000 – $50,000 based on experience

III. Qualifications

A. Shall be a practicing Christian who regularly attends a church

B. Shall have at least a minimum of an associate degree or its equivalent in formal education and career experience

C. Shall demonstrate good communication skills

D. Shall demonstrate good human service, management, and interpersonal skills

E. Shall have appropriate training and experience in managing a hunger prevention program

F. Shall obtain and maintain ServeSafe food safety certification

G. Complete and maintain mandated reporter, CPR, and 1st Aid training

H. Possess a valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record.

I. Capable of operating a truck, forklift, pallet jack and other food program equipment as needed

J. Be able to perform the physical demands of work in a warehouse and food pantry

K. Possess computer literacy skills such as word processing, database management, data manipulation, email, etc.

L. Must obtain and maintain child abuse clearances as required by law

IV. Responsibilities

A. Administration

  • a) Reports to the Executive Committee and works cooperatively with all staff and volunteers
  • b) Attend weekly meeting with the Executive Committee and staff as needed
  • c) Participate in the TNLC’s strategic plan and develop and implement goals for the organization
  • d) Assist in maintaining an annual inventory of assigned food pantries for audit
  • e) Assist in developing an annual budget
  • f) Oversees the use of the food program equipment and facilities and communicate maintenance needs to the Executive Board
  • g) Serve as liaison with the Central PA Foodbank and other food-related funders and food providers Serves as liaison with nearby food assistance programs and seeks to share resources with other agencies
  • h) Assist with recruitment and oversees training of food program volunteers
  • i) Manage daily activities of all food program volunteers in assigned locations including scheduling, task assignments, and supervision

B. Facilities

  • a) Maintain a clean, well-ordered warehouse and property
  • b) Perform minor facility maintenance
  • c) Operate electric forklift and 24’ box truck
  • d) Ensure all equipment – forklift, truck, refrigerator, freezers, pallet jacks, etc. – and facility stay in good working order; schedule maintenance/repairs as needed
  • e) Maintain proper temperature logs for the refrigerators and freezers as required by law
  • f) Maintain a database on all equipment owned by the Center

C. Programs

  • a) Provide compassion and care to individuals requesting food assistance
  • b) Maintain adequate food supply to provide the best quality food
  • c) Order and receive food and validate invoices from partner organization and vendors
  • d) Pickup, receive, and record food donations
  • e) Stock warehouse and ensure all food is sorted and stored in a safe and sanitary manner
  • f) Inventory food and provide required food bank reports
  • g) Work with area grocery stores to increase food pick-ups from stores using the pantry box truck
  • h) Utilize FIFO (first in, first out) inventory practices to ensure food quality and minimize waste
  • i) Organize and oversee food distribution process with help of other staff and volunteers
  • j) Orient volunteers to food available and tasks to be done to prepare for food distributions
  • k) Organize packing for monthly home deliveries and weekly school backpack program

V. Evaluation

The Executive Committee will conduct a performance evaluation at the end of a trial period and then yearly.
